The present invention relates to a technique for estimating the position of an acoustic source. More particularly, the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for estimating the position of an acoustic source more accurately by assuming virtual sensor on the ground using the signal of a sound wave transmitted directly to a microphone and a sound wave reflected from the ground in a process of applying a time difference of arrival (TDOA) technique between sound signal channels provided through a microphone array. According to the present invention, a measured signal reflected from the ground has the same effect as that measured by the presence of the virtual sensor on the opposite side of the ground, thereby producing an increased sensor combination. The apparatus includes a signal acquisition part; a virtual sensor generation part; a sensor pair combination part; a delay time calculation part; and a location estimating part.
