The present invention relates to thermal spray coatings and processes on non-smooth surfaces. In the coating and process, the coating can be formed on the non-smooth surface without substantially degrading the underlying surface texture or profile of the non-smooth surface so that the underlying surface texture or profile is sufficiently maintained.
