An embodiment of the present invention relates to the technical field of the Internet. Disclosed are a method for identifying a single packet, and a traffic guiding method. The method for identifying a single packet comprises: acquiring a first data packet carrying data of an application layer and transmitted by a client terminal after a connection between the client terminal and a target server has been established; determining whether a format feature of the data packet matches a format feature of a data packet of a known application; and if so, identifying an application transmitting the data packet as a matched application. The traffic guiding method comprises: determining, by means of the above method for identifying a single packet, an application transmitting a traffic data packet; acquiring a preset routing policy corresponding to the application; and forwarding the traffic data packet on the basis of the routing policy. Compared with the prior art, an embodiment of the present invention first identifies an application transmitting a traffic data packet and then forwards the data packet according to a preset routing policy corresponding to the application, thereby optimizing traffic guiding in a network, enhancing service quality of back-end lines and improving Internet surfing user experience.
