The present invention relates to a treadmill having a footfall detection function, comprising: an induction motor; a belt moving by the rotation of the induction motor; an inverter converting DC power into an alternating current and outputting the same to the induction motor to drive the induction motor; an inverter controller which controls the output of the inverter by separating stator current of the induction motor into a current component that contributes to magnetic flux generation of the induction motor and a current component that contributes to torque generation of the induction motor; and a footfall detector that detects a footfall each time a foot of a user descends and steps on the belt while the user runs or walks on the belt based on the change in the current component that contributes to torque generation of the induction motor.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020
