Seismic acquisition system comprising short streamers

A seismic data acquisition system 200 comprises a source array 218, a plurality of tow cables 208, 226 attached to a survey vessel 202, a spread of streamers 203 which comprises a plurality of long streamers 204 each attached to one of the tow cables 208, at least one connecting rope 210 attached to two adjacent tow cables 208, and at least one short streamer 234 attached to a connecting rope 210, 240 and extending inline with the direction of the survey vessel 202. The connecting ropes 210 may have regularly spaced connection points (fig 4, 430) so streamers may be removably attached. At least one short streamer 234 may extend below the source array 218. At least one connecting rope 210 may have its endpoints connected to a slider (fig 5, 538). At least one connecting rope 210 may comprise an electrical cable to transfer power to the streamers. There may be a connection rope between a pair of tow cables that carry a source and a streamer that forms a tag line 250.
