摘要

The Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) initiative is a major multinationalcooperative R&D program focused on improving the global competitiveness of manufacturing. In the early 1990s, over twenty IMS projects were initiated by Japan's Ministry of Internationl Trade and Industry (MITI); this translated document is a summarized version of the project research progress report. A method for evaluating machining and assembly design stage possibilities as one of the key technologies for the constitution of the designing system for products or parts in accordance with unmanned factor automation and integration production systems is discussed. The authors examined and analyzed survey materials regarding the evaluation of design, and field studies regarding the methodology of the evaluation of the possibilities of machining and assembly.
