The Norwegian Defense Research Establishment has participated in a Round Robininterlaboratory exercise and has analyzed samples of soil, water and decontamination liquid. Five compounds related to the Chemical Weapons Convention were identified: methylphosphonic acid, isopropyl hydrogen methylphosphonate, diisopropyl methylphosphonate, pinacolyl hydrogen methylphosphonate and n-butylphosphonic acid. The samples had been prepared by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and spiked with 500 microgram sample of methylphosphonic acid, diisopropyl methylphosphonate, pinacolyl hydrogen methylphosphonate, n-butylphosphonyl dichloride, thiodiglycol and 1,4-dithiane. Due to unexpected rapid degradation, only a few laboratories were able to detect thiodiglycol and 1,4-dithiane.
