Application of Model-Based Image Processing to the Interpretation of Maps(Toepassing van Modelgestuurde Beeldbewerking op Interpretatie van Kaarten)

摘要

The thesis describes various aspects of model-based image processing. The model-based approach is different from the 'classical' approach of bottom-up or top-down interpretation, because the latter do not allow extensive use of a priori knowledge such as the characteristic features of the objects to interpret, the (valid) relations between the objects, the consistency of the interpretation, and the anticipation of errors which can be made during the interpretation process. The model-based approach in this thesis gives a solution for several of these problems.
