This report presents a one-dimensional tidally averaged model that describes long-term (in the order of 10 to 100 years) morphodynamic processes in long estuaries and tidal basins. This model is an approximation of a tidal short-term (in the order of weeks to months) morphodynamic model, The validity of the approximation is shown. Since the model in general cannot be studied analytically, a numerical simulation model has been developed. The time-step of this model can vary from days up to years, depending on the type of sediment and type of estuary. The numerical model is used to study the sensitivity of the model with respect to the parameters that determine the processes. In the application of the model three types of estuaries are distinguished: short tidal basins (length in the order of 10km), medium size tidal basins (length in the order of 50km), and long estuaries (length in the order of 200km).
