The quality demands for steel plate and strip products are increasing, and211u001eflatness and dimensional measurements performed on these products must fulfill 211u001equality standards, and above all the needs of the clients. Many quality assurance 211u001emethods exist with regard to flatness and dimensional measurements in the steel 211u001eindustry. Manual gauging methods are often still used, but they are costly in 211u001eterms of time and labour. Automated noncontact optical measurement systems are 211u001ebecoming more common due to their benefits over traditional methods. In this 211u001ethesis a projection moire topography is applied for automatic measurement of the 211u001eflatness of large steel plates and a fully automated system applicable to varying 211u001esurface properties of large steel plats is implemented in a hostile industrial 211u001eenvironment.
