This is the second volume in a two-volume set reporting the results of all211u001esurveys through 1998 from the Monitoring the Future study of American secondary 211u001eschool students, college students, and young adults. Monitoring the Future is a 211u001elong-term research program conducted at the University of Michigan's Institute 211u001efor Social Research under a series of research grants from the National Institude 211u001eon Drug Abuse. It is comprised of an ongoing series of annual national surveys of 211u001eAmerican high school seniors begun in 1975--the results of which are presented in 211u001eVolume 1--as well as a series of annual follow-up surveys of representative 211u001esamples of the previous participants from each high school senior class going 211u001eback to the Class of 1976. In 1991, the study also began to survey eighth and 211u001etenth grade students; the results from these surveys are included in Volume 1. 211u001eThis second volume presents the results of the 1977 through 1998 follow-up 211u001esurveys of the graduating high school classes of 1976 through 1997 as these 211u001erespondents have progressed through young adulthood.
