Toxicity of Certain Engine Oils, Hydraulic Fluids, and Base Oils for the Compounding of Both Hydraulic Fluids and Engine Oils

1. The intrinsic toxicities of these compounds in rabbits and rats are relatively low as manifested by intravenous LD50’s between 0.05 cc./kg. and 1.5 cc./kg.n2. The hazard to humans incurred by swallowing these compounds would appear almost negligible in view of the fact that based on experiments with rats, ah average size man (70 kg.) would have to ingest 174 cc. of the most toxic compound in order to obtain an ID50 dose.n3. The hazard from an accidental splash in the eye of one of these compounds appears to be slight.
