PART I considers certain pooling procedures with regard to the power and size resulting from them. The theory is based on certain: "incompletely specified" linear models. This work is an extension of the investigations of Paull and Bechhofer for the component of variance model and the linear hypothesis model respectively. For the former model, size curves and power curves with corresponding tables are given in Appendix 3 for varying degrees of freedom (n1.n2.n3) of the mean squares entering into the pooling procedure, as well as for varying levels of significance (a1) of the preliminary test. The levels of signifi¬cance for the final test (a2, a3,) are kept mainly at the 5% level throughout. Based on these curves, recommendations are made for the guidance of research workers employing these pooling procedures
