摘要

The possibilities and limitations of ultrasonic inspection are discussed and ways in which automatic data processing may be incorporated into control procedures are suggested. Ultrasonic fault detection is reviewed, including sorting and data analysis, all of which is often carried out manually. Advantages in automating this process are pointed out. A method whereby automatic ultrasonic fault detection can be integrated into the manufacture of parts on large forges is critically analyzed. Results are used to define a method of data acquisition and processing adapted to integrated fault detection during the fabrication of nonspecified valuable parts. It is noted that the equipment necessary for this implementation is not commercially available.
