Determination of Medical Practice Regarding Coronary Heart Disease Risk Factors. Baseline Measurements of Practice Before Release of Results of the Coronary Primary Prevention Trial

The evaluation provided baseline data to enable the NHLBI to determine the impact of the Coronary Primary Prevention Trial (CPPT) on clinical practice and to determine effective ways to disseminate clinical trial results to the medical community. A random sample of 1610 physicians in the continental United States was interviewed in the Fall of 1983 to ascertain their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding coronary heart disease risk factors. The baseline results will be compared with data collected in a follow-up survey of physicians to be conducted approximately one year after the January 1984 release of CPPT results.
