Grass seeding is an uncertain endeavor even in the best of circumstances, but in the arid Southwest it is an extremely risky venture. This technical note is intended to present the important factors that influence the success of seeding native grasses in the arid and semi-arid Southwest. New Mexico USDA-NRCS standards and specifications for critical area planting and range planting provide detailed information on seeding native grasses.
