摘要

The magnetic-susceptibility characteristics of fluvial sediment along the lower Fox River in northeastern Illinois were studied as a means for understanding the provenance of fluvial sediment within the Fox River drainage basin. High- and low-frequency susceptibility and frequency-dependent susceptibility were determined on samples of recently deposited overbank sediment, overbank sediment from flood-plain sequences, main-channel sediment, channel-margin sediment, bar-top sediment, and topsoil from cultivated fields. The lack of a correlation between bulk sediment magnetic susceptibility and sediment particle size indicates that magnetic minerals are probably evenly distributed throughout the particle-size distribution of the samples analyzed.
