A literature study of different groundwaters in the circum-Baltic region is presented in this work. The study is mainly focused on the isotopic signatures observed in different groundwaters in Sweden and Finland. A discrepancy is sometimes observed between the stable as well as radiogenic isotopes of the intermediate groundwater, which suggest a mixture of fossil marine water and a post-glacial runoff of melt water. In order to explain this phenomenon, the initial setting in delta-O-18 may have been depleted due to large input of high latitude marine water or cold melt waters. A solution to the contradiction between the strontium (delta-Sr-87) and stable isotopes (delta-D, delta-C-13, delta-O-18) signatures of the groundwater and of the calcite fracture fillings at Aespoe and other places is attained, if it is assumed that the strontium in Baltic Sea water has undergone a significant decrease in delta-Sr-87 since the last glaciation.
