Desorption under nitrogen or hydrogen of oxygen chemisorbed on graphite

The additional peaks are apparently due to impurities, but it has not yet been possible to identify these.nThese desorptions of water under hydrogen, except perhaps that corres¬ponding to the 800 C peak, are accompanied by chemiscrption of hydrogen which is unaffected by degassing under nitrogen at 900 C;if this is followed by oxidation, water is collected in an amount equal in many experi¬ments to that of the water released under hydrogen. This indicates that desorbed oxygen is replaced by H2 or by 2H.
