The efficiency of surface ionization of beams of thallium and lithium fluoride on surfaces of tungsten, iridium, platinum, rhodium, tantalum, niobium, rhenium, palladium, nickel, and molybdenum was experimentally investigated using molecular beam techniques. Maximum efficiency and comparative signal-to-noise ratios were obtained for the first seven listed above. Efficiency as a function of detector temperature was determined for a few of these.
