摘要

The objective of the program was to understand the role of the interface on the micromechanics of deformation of metal matrix composites. To this end, yielding, flow, and fracture behavior were correlated with the associated stress state and structural detail. Two specific types of composite material were included in the study; conventional fiber-reinforced aluminum-stainless steel, and unidirectionally solidified Al-Cu eutectic. The report covers studies on aluminum-stainless steel composites. Part 1: Correlation of uniaxial yielding and substructure in aluminum-stainless steel composites; Part 2: Fracture behavior of aluminum-stainless steel composites. (Author)
