A cultural resources reconnaissance (Class II Inventory) of the right bank ofLake Oahe in Dewey County, South Dakota, was undertaken by the Archeology Laboratory, Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota,for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District (Contract No. DACW45-91-C-O144), between August 1991 and August 1992. The field survey was conducted during the period March 12-April 10, 1992. The survey area is estimated at approximately 15,740 acres (24.6 sq. miles). A total of six sites and 19 isolated finds were evaluated during the project. The major site types recorded include prehistoric artifact scatters (n=2), stone circle sites (n=2) and stone cairns (n=2). Diagnostic materials from the Late Prehistoric and recent Historic periods were recovered. Analyses are undertaken on the site types and artifacts, and management priorities are discussed.
