Our lead story for this issue is another report on a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards education grant. At the North Carolina State University, fire protection-particularly protective clothing-is a major program, and the staff there report on their work to develop curricula that focus on standards. This article, like many we've published, focuses on programs for and by regular four-year college educational institutions. We follow this with an article about a growing phenomenon in US education, the community college. In particular, the development of programs for standardization in providing the technicians that industry needs in the Pacific Northwest.
