Recently, I participated in an Open Forum for Standards Developers conducted by the American National Standards Institute here in Washington, D.C. Meetings like these, in addition to containing a few nuggets of wisdom, I also bring to light how others are addressing the ever-changing issues of I the day. Embedded within this type of gathering frequently reside the ageold omnipresent terms that create that potential undercurrent of verbal clash. This occurs due to the fact that with the convergence of a diverse set of industries, individuals, and applications along with a seemingly simple set of subjects, the potential for variance in definitions becomes almost unavoid?able. Words mean different things in different spheres of operation.
