Once a year I cover a topic that is a little different than the normal topics that I write about. In this column I want to relay some thoughts on something that is important for all standards professionals. But first, let me fill you in on some background history about the Society. In 1994, under the capable leadership of my predecessor, Don Kear, SES adopted the tagline, "Promoting Standards and Standardization." This short phrase appeared to be sufficient enough to cover what we were all about. The tagline survived up until last year.
