The energy agreement in 2012 marked the launch of an unparalleled development of wind energy: towards 2020, 2 large offshore wind farms at Horns Rev and Kriegers Flak will be constructed with a total capacity of 1,000 MW. In combination with the construction of a completely new type of near-coastal farms with a total capacity of 450 MW and a new programme of demonstration trubines with a total capacity of 50 MW, this means that Denmark's existing wind capacity at sea will be doubled. According to Morten Baek, the new director general of the Danish Energy Agency, this will generate new opportunities in the sector in relation to, for instance, costs.
