Keppel FELS is to build a fourth ultra-deepwater semi for ENSCO at its Singapore Shipyard. ENSCO 8503 will become the company's fifth deepwater semi; the unit is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2010, with an estimated total project cost of around USD 427 million. It is the company's fourth semi in the 8500 series, all of which are being built at Keppel FELS Singapore. All four will be capable of drilling in up to 8,500 fsw, and can readily be upgraded to 10,000 fsw if required. Enhancements include a two million pound quad derrick, offline pipe handling capability, increased drilling capacity, greater variable deck load, and improved automatic station keeping ability. The other three 8500 series rigs under construction at Keppel FELS - ENSCO 8500, ENSCO 8501 and ENSCO 8502 - have scheduled delivery dates of second quarter 2008, first quarter 2009 and late fourth quarter 2009 respectively. ENSCO 8500 and ENSCO 8501 are both committed to long-term programs in the US Gulf upon delivery.
