The Asia Pacific floater market is showing a slight rig shortage through 2008. Since much of the outstanding demand consists of short-term programs, a number of operators have joined forces to jointly charter a rig. Jackup supply is more or less in balance with demand, with the exception of Australasia, where a deficit of just over one rig is anticipated in 2008. BRUNEI DARUSSALAM: Shell Brunei is in the process of identifying a deepwater unit for work commencing around mid-2008. The workscope covers one well in water depths of around 1,000 msw (3,280 fsw). It is understood the operator is already talking to at least one contractor. Meanwhile, Shell Brunei's selection process for its 15K BOP jackup tender is still ongoing.
