While some operators are planning to step up drilling activity in the shallower waters of the US Gulf Outer Continental Shelf, demand is not yet sufficient to bring about a recovery in the jackup market. Drilling contractors continue to have to scramble for work and are increasingly focusing their attention to international markets. Meantime, a limited supply of floaters is expected throughout the year. USA GULF OF MEXICO: Hunt Petroleum has outlined its drilling plans for the coming months, and the operator will require three jackups giving a total of around 285 days of work. Hunt has a requirement for a jackup to drill an exploration well in 310 fsw in South Timbalier Block 293. The program has an estimated duration of 45 days and is scheduled to begin April 1. Starting in May, the operator plans to drill three wells with a mat-supported jackup in the Main Pass area; the program will last around four months. Water depth at the location is 150 fsw. Finally, a 250'-300'jackup is required for a program in 210 fsw in Eugene Island Block 312 that is slated for a June start. The workscope consists of two wells plus the tieback and completion of a third well. The anticipated duration of this program is also around four months.
