Vyborg Shipyard and Gazflot LLC have signed a contract for the construction of two newbuild semis of MOSS CS-50 design to undertake drilling operations on the Shtokman gas-condensate field in the Barents Sea. Delivery of the units is planned for 2010 and 2011. The units will be self-propelled with two pontoons and six columns, and will be capable of accommodating 128 people. The rigs will be constructed under technical supervision of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping and are intended to have a life of at least 20 years. Scorpion Offshore has exercised the first of its four options with Lamprell Energy to build a LeTourneau Super 116E class jackup. The turnkey price of this rig, to be named Offshore Mischief, is USD 175.9 million excluding drillpipe and handling tools. The rig is a sister to Offshore Freedom, and its construction will tale place at Lamprell's yard in Sharjah. Delivery is scheduled for late 2009. Offshore Mischief will be Scorpion's seventh jack-up newbuild and the second rig being built by Lamprell in the UAE. Scorpion still holds options to construct up to three additional LeTourneau Super 116E rigs at Lamprell.
