The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been a massive and complex public policy undertaking, with adjustments still being made. Starting with trials in 2013, the NDIS replaced previously disjointed and underfunded state disability systems with a national scheme of guaranteed funding that almost doubled the existing spend on disability services in Australia. Through the NDIS, many people with disabilities have gained access to services who had not received disability services before.
