摘要

Four "who-ristic" questions to ask yourself when designing artificially intelligent educational technologies that will actually benefit people. Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, and education is no exception. You might already be familiar with educational technologies like intelligent tutors, teachable agents and robots, dynamic immersive simulations, and adaptive courseware. These AI-based systems use learner info (e.g., scores, clicks, behaviors, and even emotions) to assess skills, give feedback, suggest strategies, and more. AI-based software also plays a role in decisions about college admission, financial aid, course placement, enrollment, and other educational activities aside from learning. AI is not only ubiquitous, but it is also impactful and influential. Many impressive advancements in artificial intelligence in education(AIED) are technological or computational. As shown by other authors in this thematic issue, contemporary AIED might examine how learning and assessment are facilitated by AI systems(e.g., ChatGPT) or how AI-generated avatars can support teaching. AIED breakthroughs often stem from novel methods for collecting, analyzing, and applying insights from complex data(e.g., multimodal learning analytics 1).
