International tea prices rose again in August, driven by a sharp increase in average prices paid at the Mombasa auction. A wage dispute in Sri Lanka then caused a further tightening of supplies, pushing up prices at the Colombo auction in early September.The three-auction average reached US2,987dollar per kg in August, just surpassing the record level reached the previous month. Prices at Colombo and Calcutta stabilised at around the same levels seen in July, while prices at Mombasa maintained the strong upward trend seen in recent months.
