Tea prices at the world's leading auction centres rose again in May, with rises in Calcutta and Colombo pushing the three auction average close to the record levels posted in the middle of last year. The three auction average rose to USS2,688 per kg in May, up by 18 cents on the revised average for the previous month and 20 cents higher than in May 2008. This was the highest ever May figure and was close to the record US$2,759 per kg reached in July of last year.
