Retained suture material in the posterior chamber of an aphakic eye for 33 years

Inadvertent retention of various foreign bodies such, as cilia, suture needle, metallic bodies, and cotton fibers have been reported after cataract surgery.1"4 To our knowledge, retention of suture material in the posterior chamber has not been reported. We describe a case in which suture material remained in the operated eye for 33 years.
