Go big or go home" could very well be the motto of mechanized loggers on Canada's West Coast when it comes to processing heads. In a venue where the second growth timber can easily exceed the diameter of old growth in other regions of the country, processing heads have to be big, they have to be durable, and they have to produce. Operators and supervisors at the Campbell River, BC-based Madden Group on Northern Vancouver Island know this well. The company, which specializes in coastal logging on theIsland and EC's coastal mainland, is targeting 1.7 million cubic metres of production this year, and most of that is through mechanized harvesting methods with big heads from Waratah and LogMax.
