摘要

With access to ouer 17 million m3 of timber in BC alone, the future of First Rations forestry is as bright as communities wish to make it. ccording to Frank Brown, First Nations groups in British Columbia could have a bright future ahead of them whenit comes to logging and forest products. Brown, who lives in Ladysmith, BC, but is a member of the Heiltsuk Nation in the province's central coastal community of Bella Bella, has been working hard as an advocate for BC's First Nations and their forestryopportunities. He is now poised to initiate programs that could see First Nations wood products from BC front and centre on the worldwide stage. "In British Columbia alone, we have over 17 million cubic metres of timber available to about 100 First Nations," he explains. "What we need to work on is the infrastructure to harvest and process this timber and the resources to market it."
