The Societe Chimique de France (SCF) has awarded Janine Cossy (Ecole Superieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris; ESPCI) with the Prix Le Bel for her important contributions to new methods in organic chemistry and her active involvement in the SCF. Cossy's work is focused on photochemistry, thermal reactions, radical chemistry, rearrangements, organo-metallic chemistry, and catalysis, and on the synthesis of natural products and biologically active compounds. She recently reported in Chemistry-A European Journal on the synthesis of natural products FR252921 and pseudotrienic acid B, and in Angewandte Chemie on the asymmetric total synthesis of (-)-pironetin.
