Import purchasers favour ISO 14001-certified suppliers

A survey of American, British, Dutch, German, Japanese and Spanish importers of Israeli products indicates that the decision to purchase can be positively influenced by the existence of a supplier's ISO 14001-certified environmental management system. Conventional wisdom holds that being "good to the environment" is "good for busi-ness", and there is ample evidence to show that an environmental management system (EMS) such as ISO 14001 can improve an organization's environmental performance. Yet many industries appear lukewarm to EMS implementation, suggesting that we need to do a better job of demonstrating the benefits.
