Approximately four years ago ISO/TC 58/SC 4, Operational requirements for gas cylinders initiated its review process for long existing standards that are referenced at periodic inspections and testing of gas containers. Although all of the requalification standards were being reviewed, two (specifically ISO 6406, Periodic inspection and testing of seamless steel gas cylinders and ISO 10461, Periodic inspection and testing of seamless aluminum alloy gas cylinders) were selected as spearhead documents, since many of the changes could be considered for incorporation into other standards. Our focus was further refined to work on ISO 6406, Periodic inspection and testing of seamless steel gas cylinders so that changes could be slightly modified for inclusion into the Aluminum Alloy Gas Cylinder PI & T (Periodic Inspection and Testing).
