Fertilizer sales are very much on hold in France, particularly in the North, as heavy rain continues to delay application. Warehouses across the entire fertilizer chain are full awaiting offtake from farmers. The high nitrogen residues discovered in the soil in January, due to the drought last year, are believed to have diminished somewhat due to the high rainfall recently. Wholesalers now predict that N consumption may only fall by between 2-5pc this fertilizer year rather than initial expectations of a reduction of over 10pc.
