The ammonites of the keppleri Horizon (basal Callovian, Middle Jurassic) of Albstadt-Pfeffingen (Swabian Alb, Germany) - biostratigraphy and correlation

This study describes the ammonite fauna of the keppleri Horizon (Herveyi Zone, lower-most Callovian, Middle Jurassic) of Albstadt-Pfeffingen (Swabian Alb, southwestern Germany). The association consists of about 200 specimens comprising eight genera and twenty species. It is predominated by Homoeoplanulites (60 ), others are Macrocephalites, Bullatimorphites, Kepplerites, Cadoceras and Choffatia. Oppeliidae are rare, but important for biogeographical interpretations. The potential of the occurring ammonite taxa as tools for long-distance correlation is discussed.
