Local hero

The attic workshop of engineer James Watt FRS, FRSE (1736-1819), who has often been described as a hero of the Industrial Revolution, has been recreated in every detail by the Science Museum and is open to visitors as a permanent exhibition. The fame of Watt will in future ages rest secure upon the imperishable basis of his many discoveries, and he will ever be ranked in the first class of those great men who have benefited the human race by the improvement of the arts of industry and peace.
