CPD is an acronym that has been around for a long time. Most of us know what it stands for, but how many people understand what CPD is, or even acknowledge that they are doing it? Continuing professional development is a tool to help everyone, no matter what profession or trade, keep themselves up to date with new trends, technologies and methods. This continual updating of knowledge and skills keeps the user at the forefront of his or her career, increasing employability, earning potential and job satisfaction. In addition, a good record of CPD will not only help to reduce certain costs such as employers' liability insurance, but it is also vital when applying for an upgrade in Institution membership or Engineering Council registration.
