Catalytic asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of ketones has emerged as an attractive alternative to the use of hydrogen for the preparation of optically active secondary alcohols. The majority of the research carried out in this area has relied on Ru~(II) catalysts bearing optically active phosphines and amino/sulfonamides.
