SMITH PREVIOUSLY COMMENTED on regulatory issues concerning timber treatment, notably with regard to TimberSaver T1.2 last year when the treatment chemical in question was also boron. He says that since its transformation in 1988 into a trading entity,SNZ has been dependent on the sale of standards documents and seminars to fund its activities, and asserts that it can no longer afford the independent technical expertise necessary to review and update standards. Smith's greatest concern is "the way commercial interests have come to dominate the standards setting process".
