Characterization of household solid waste in Gurgaon city, India

Gurgaon is an industrial city in Haryana State, situated 25 km south-west of Delhi, the national Capital. Gurgaon city is one of 22 "satellite" towns in the Capital Region with an area of approximately 50 sq. km featuring a rapid growth rate with 230,000 resident population and 10,000 floating population per day (Census of India, 2001). However, according to local estimates, the total population of Gurgaon city lies between 1.3 and 2.0 million with average population growth rate of 18-20 per annum.
