摘要

The National University of Malaysia is one of Malaysia's leading universities with a campus population of approximately 30,000 lecturers and students. In view of the size of this community, solid waste management represents a major challenge in achieving institutional sustainability. In 2008, a major change took place in the solid waste management (SWM) system in the university. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed to upgrade collection of solid waste to a centralized collection system through a collaboration between the university and the solid waste company AFSB. The collaboration intended to institute integrated solid waste management (ISWM) at the university and enable the university to achieve a Zero-Waste campus objective. The rate of solid waste generation by the university was recently estimated to be approximately 8 tons per day.
