As its title suggest, this relatively brief document is both an exposition and an analysis of the part that composting can play as a technology in the remediation of environments damaged through contamination. Ability to serve in this role significantly expands those potentials of composting that serve to broaden the variety of useful applications of the process and provide a substantial role for composting in the management of hazardous waste. Despite its title, the report is both an analysis and a survey. (However, it must be admitted that an adequate analysis involves the elements of analysis coupled with that of survey.) The tenor of the survey aspect is such as to render the document into an encouraging summarization of the extensive potential utilization of the compost process and its product in the restoration of deteriorated environmental resources to their pristine status as useful resources. The report includes 10 tables, the collective contents of which cover a wide spectrum of relevant information gathered from the literature. The list of figures has 46 entries. Each entry is interesting as well as useful. The collection of figures is enlivened by several well-chosen photographs of good pictorial quality. Graphics employed in the figures are clear and well-executed. The combination of informative tables and figures materially enhances the practical utility of the report.
