Estimates are obtained of the stratospheric ozone sensitivity to long-term linear trends of the content of nitrogen oxide NO_2 and hydrogen chloride vapor HCl, which result in changes in the rates of ozone depletion within the nitrogen and chlorine photochemical cycles. It is shown that correct assessment of the ozone loss due to halocarbons whose emissions into the atmosphere are controlled by the Montreal Protocol decision, requires taking into account the observed trends in stratospheric NO_2.
